MANILA, Philippines - Ten schools see action in the Philippine Inter-Schools Colleges Universities Athletic Association (PISCUAA) basketball tournament which unfolds today at the Cuneta Astrodome.
A triple bill will usher in the new season with defending champion Universal College opening its title retention bid against Unibersidad de Manila.
The match is set at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the game pitting Technological University of the Philippines against Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) at 3 p.m. and Eulogio ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) against St. Dominic Savio College at 5 p.m.
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim is the guest of honor in the simple opening ceremony prepared by host school Unibersidad de Manila at 11 a.m.
PISCUAA president Robert Milton Calo, who also is the TUP athletic director, said he expects keen competition with rivals all set to challenge UC, which also ruled the ASEAN University Championship last month.
“This year’s edition offers stiffer competition with the return of Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the entry of new team University of Rizal System,” said Calo.
