De Guzman leads architects golf monthly winners

MANILA, Philippines - Manny de Guzman fired 35 points under the Stableford scoring system to capture the Group I crown in the Architects Golf Club’s monthly tournament by two points at the Palmer course of the Orchard Golf and Country Club in Dasmariñas, Cavite recently.

With a 13 handicap, de Guzman turned in a gross 87, the same output put in by Boy Alcantara, an 11-handicapper who settled for runner-up honors with 33 points after nipping Jojo Salcedo in the countback on a net birdie. Salcedo also had 33 points from a gross 91.

Francis Santaromana ran away with the Group I plum with 38 points from a gross 92, four points ahead of Al Tatel, who had 34 points from a gross 91, while Kado Gutierrez shot a gross 95 worth 33 points for third.

Manny Padit came through with a net birdie on No. 18th to beat Manny Lozano’s closing net par effort and pocket the Group III title in the 99-player field event sponsored by Boysen Paints, Teresa Marble, WB Prime Door/1Realtyshop.com, Wilcon Builders, Wingco Const. Corp., World Home Depot, Bticino, Cemvathene Mktg., Columbia Wires, Firefly Electric and Lighting and GT Stoneworks.

Willy Cruz romped away with the Group IV crown with a gross 92 worth 43 points for a 10-point victory over Joven Guevarra, who had 33 points from a gross 103. He edged Sonia Ongkiko, who shot a gross 101, with a net birdie on the final hole.

Nilo Villanueva made 39 points from a gross 101 as he copped the Group V title over Edward Lim, who finished second with 37 points from a gross 105 while Albert Uy carded a gross 107 and wound with 33 points for third.
