Folayang stakes unbeaten record against Guamanian
MANILA, Philippines - Welterweight champion Eduard Folayang stakes his unbeaten record against Guam’s AJ “The Headache” Aguon in the main event of the Colt 45 URCC (Universal Reality Combat Championship) XIV extravaganza dubbed “Aggression” July 18 at the A. Venue Events Hall in Makati.
The mixed martial arts event, according to URCC founder and president Alvin Aguilar, is fast gaining recognition in the country and worldwide.
“Mixed martial arts in the country have grown tremendously since their humble beginnings when matches were held underground. Now, it is being held in a proper venue,” said Aguilar. “We have a lot of talents now, some universities and colleges even have MMA teams.”
MMA, a two-round, 20-minute contest, is the country’s answer to UFC in the US. It is a combination of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Thai boxing, wushu and yawyan which put premium on striking, kicking, takedown and grappling.
Folahang, known as “The Landslide” stakes his 4-0 mark against Aguon, one of exciting fighters of Spike 22. The two clash in a catchweight of 155 lbs since AJ belongs to the lower lightweight division.
Before making a name in MMA, Folayang won several medals, including a silver in the Doha Asian Games.
The other match to watch in the event presented by Colt 45 Premium Strong Beer and supported by Alaxan FR & E-games with Solar Sports, CS/9, Magic 89.9, 99.5 RT, Rogue Magazine as media partners are the showdown between URCC’s former middleweight champ Caloy Baduria of MMA Elorde and Cuban Remand “El Matador” of Hybrid Yawyan.
The two will be fighting for the vacant light heavyweight title in the event also backed by SEAIR, Chris sports, TRX, Bulls Gloves, Padi’s Point, Yoshinoya and VRP Medical Center.
