Langit 3rd in French triathlon
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines’ top female triathlete LC Langit, gearing up for her goal of qualifying in the 2012 London Olympics, took a big step towards attaining that dream, finishing in the top three in the women’s division of the recent Dijon Triathlon in France.
Held around a small lake of this French town, the race featured a 3K lake swim, followed by an 85K bike leg over rolling hills with some steep climbs and long descents, topped by a 20K run with Langit, a veteran of the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, coming up with a strong swim and bike, enabling her to maintain second place in the first two legs of the race.
However, she faded in the final stretch of the run leg and settled for third place with TBB’s Tereza Macel completely dominating the women’s field from start to finish.
“This is a great start for Langit considering it was her first European race, her full-time training in Subic is paying off for her and we intend to maintain our triathlon training camp there with support from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and David’s Salon. We are looking at a second stint in next year’s Asian Games in China for Langit, also at the second Asian Beach Games in Muscat, Oman, and hopefully, she makes it all the way to London in 2012,” said Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) president Tom Carrasco.
