Guiao draws fine, warning for outburst
MANILA, Philippines - PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios imposed a stiff fine on top of a stern warning on Burger King coach Yeng Guiao for his latest on-court outburst Sunday.
Guiao was fined P73,000 for his ninth technical infraction in the ongoing Motolite PBA Fiesta Conference and was meted an extra fine of P10,000 for confronting the referees in the hallway leading to the dugout after the game.
Barrios also warned the fiery BK coach that he would be suspended the next time he loses his temper.
Guiao was assessed almost P.1 million in fines as the league guidebook on sanctions calls for escalation of fines for a player or a coach after six technical fouls in a tournament.
“The fans are filling our venues mainly because we have two very interesting semifinal series. And the fans can rest assured that we will not allow the beauty of the series to be spoiled by unsportsmanlike conduct or any form of hooliganism,” said Barrios.
Also fined were San Miguel players Wesley Gonzales (P6,000) and Beau Belga (P10,000).
Gonzales was fined for a second motion after he took a hard foul from Mark Yee on a lay-up.
Belga was penalized after picking up his third flagrant foul penalty 1 in the conference in Friday’s Game 2 following a hard foul on SMB import Gabe Freeman.
