MANILA, Philippines – Boy Alcantara fired a net 69 then nipped Mike Peña in the countback to capture the Group I crown in the Architects Golf Club monthly tournament and second quarter awarding at the Valley Golf and Country Club’s south course recently.
Alcantara, a 14 handicapper, made a gross 83, including a bogey on No. 16 where he edged Peña, who had a double par for a 69 from a gross 84. Jojo Salcedo finished third with a gross 87 and a net 72.
Joe Felix ran away with the Group 2 plum with a net 67 from a gross 84, posting a five-shot win over Henry Wee-Ebol, who had a net 72 from a gross 91. Edward Lim also made a net 72 from a gross 90 but bogeyed the final hole as against Wee-Ebol’s par to settle for third.
The tournament, sponsored by Boysen Paints, Jellco Enterprises, Julant/Pycor Premise-SC, Hunter Douglas Phils., Inc., Kuysen Enterprises, Inc., Multi-line Designs Systems,, Omsvac Enterprises Inc., Philflex, Republic Powdercoat, Samitrade and Sycwin, drew 120 participants with the awards rites held at Wilcon Builder’s Depot-Libis.
Arnel Rey-Matias took the Group 3 title with a 68 from a gross 92 for a one-stroke victory over Julian Confesor, who had a net 69 from a gross 92. Rafael Villanueva placed third with a 96 for a net 70.
Jimmy Ebreo reigned in Group 4 with a net 64 from a gross 92 while Danny Tabifranca (67) and Boni Embuscado (70) finished second and third with gross scores of 95 and 99, respectively.
Jun Anders topped Group 5 with a gross 94 for a net 62 as he won over Louie Montes, who had a 63 from a gross 95 while Francis Romualdez carded a 72 from a gross 104 to place third.
