Malaysians top Open bowlfest
MANILA, Philippines – Malaysia dominated the 38th Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships as it swept the ladies’ Class O all-events, doubles and trios at the Paeng’s Midtown Bowl at the Robinson’s Place in Malate, Manila Thursday night.
The Malaysian keglers, who arrived only Wednesday, quickly buckled down to work with Fahtin Zyazliana dishing out high games of 216 and 268 to power the team to the top of the ladies Class O trios with a 1,270 aggregate. Other members of the squad were Tengku Emanina (388) and Sinli Jane (398).
The Malaysian trio took a two-pin edge over the RP team of Kim Lao, Alexis and Liza del Rosario (1,268) while another Malaysian squad comprising Syakirah Yeoh, Tengku Emanina and Jane pooled 1,207 to place third in the event sponsored by the University of Perpetual Help System, Department of Tourism, Amway Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission.
The 20-year-old Zyazliana, a Malaysia national team newcomer, likewise seized first place in the ladies’ Class O all-events contest with a commanding output of 1,524 after scoring 647 in the singles, 393 in the doubles and 484 in the trios.
She overtook RP team players Liza Del Rosario (1,415) and Apple Posada (1,404), who slipped to second and third, respectively, in the event organized by the Philippine Bowling Congress and sanctioned by the World Tenpin Bowling Association.
Other backers of the event are Chowking, Colgate-Palmolive, The City Bowling Shop, USAct, Pearl Garden Hotel, Nestle Philippines, Paeng’s Midtown Bowl, Goldbridge and Pan Pacific Manila, the tournament’s official hotel.
