7-nation PCSO international junior golf under way
MANILA, Philippines - Jungolfers from Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines plunge into action beginning today at the start of the ninth Philippine Charity Sweeptakes Office (PCSO) Philippine International Junior Golf Championships at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club.
Seventy-five players are battling it out in various age categories, including Class A (15-17), Class B (13-14), Class C (11-12) and Class D (10-and-under).
The foreign field was treated to a Filipino hospitality and welcome party by the organizing Philippine Junior Golf Federation since their arrival on Sunday.
“Now we see them in action. Now we see topnotch junior golf,” said PJGF president Edgardo “Boy” Cantada, who is staging this event with big help coming from Lucio “Bong” Tan Jr. of MacroAsia, Wallem Philippine Shipping, Toyota Balintawak, Toyota Otis, New Divisoria Mall, Rescue Derm and Atty. Gilberto Duavit.
The tournament using stroke play, will feature some of the promising golfers in the boys and girls 18-21 special division, Class A 15-17, Class B 13-14, Class C 11-12 and Class D 10-and-under.
Also chipping in to help stage this event are Puyat Steel, Amsterdam Pawnshop and Money Changer, Citystate Properties, Empire Insurance, Food Industries Inc., Miracle Farming Enterprise, Garry Uy, Philippine Flour Mills, Millenium Insurance, Candyman, Darly De Roca, Duty Free Phils., Kopi Roti, Morning Glory Inc., Pan De Manila, Bobby Inigo, Conceptrade, EJ and Obie Marcelo, Greenhills Autohaus, Lucky Securities Inc., Oliver Gan, Wack Wack Express, Elphege Wong, Dave Astejada, Nene Tanpinco and Myra Cruz.
