Mercedes Trophy on at Sta. Elena

MANILA, Philippines - The fourth edition of the Mercedes Trophy national final gets underway today at the Sta. Elena Golf Club in Cabuyao, Laguna where select Mercedes-Benz loyal car owners will vie for limited slots to represent the Philippines in the bigger stage – the regional final in Australia.

The winners and runners-up in Classes A, B and C will comprise the six-man RP squad in the nine-country regional final of the Mercedes Trophy, which is on its 19th year of staging the golf tournament exclusively for the Mercedes-Benz owners’ society around the world.

CATS Motors Inc., exclusive RP distributor of Mercedes-Benz, is hosting 215 players in the event co-presented by Philippine Airlines, PLDT, Smart Infinity, Arrow Shirts and TW Steel with co-sponsors Canon Phils., Coors Beer, Sta. Elena Properties, Seaboard Eastern Insurance, Shangri-La Hotel, Johnnie Walker, Crown Pipes, Business Mirror and Inquirer Golf.

Southeast Asia president Wolfgang Huppenbauer of Daimler, mother company of Mercedes-Benz, is the guest of honor at the posh Sta. Elena complex. He will join CATS Motors chairman Greg Yu and president Felix Ang for the traditional hitting of the ceremonial ball together with PAL president Jimmy Bautista, PLDT SVP Eric Alberto, Benito Lim of Arrow and Ivan Yao of TW Steel.

“Daimler Southeast Asia and I are very proud to see such continuous enthusiasm and passion for our high-class golf tournament. Among the participating countries in Asia, the Philippines is known for its special dedication to the Mercedes Trophy,” Huppenbauer said.
