PCR-Tough Gear Racing sparkles in karting series
MANILA, Philippines - PCR-Tough Gear Racing, karting’s new kid on the block, emerged the winningest team recently in the third leg of the 2009 Magnolia Super Karting Series at the Kart Zone in Cebu.
The team bested all other teams with its harvest of six wins, two runner-ups and a third place finish with the big support of Fern-C, CMB Film Services Inc., Getaway Travel and Tours, Placewell International Inc., Confidence Shipping Company Manila Inc., Migarch, Golf Sky and PCR-Italy.
Rookie Estefano Rivera started the winning streak clinching the Formula SL Novice crown up against Cebu homegrown talents Tonyo Carcel and Jette Calderon.
Showing aggressive driving and defense throughout, Rivera controlled the lead coast-to-coast as he wrapped up the 28-lap race in 12 minutes and 55.811 seconds or a far 4.023 seconds ahead of Carcel.
Following his feat, he moved third overall in the title race with 154 points.
Guest Cebuano karter Paco Rodriguez powered two big triumphs for PCR-Tough Gear when he captured both the Formula SL Heavy and the Formula SL Expert crowns.
Rodriguez made it a 1-2 finish in the Formula SL Expert class together with VJ Suba and turned back fellow Cebuano Patrick Gandionco and AUTS Racing Mike Fox in the Formula SL Heavy division.
Fanny Rivera credited her wards’ big improvement with the acquisition of long-time racer and former Asian Formula 3 driver Edgen Dy-Liacco who equipped the kids with advanced techniques and proper motivation as manager-coach.
“We’re happy with Edgen’s all-out support to the team and the results were great only after three races into the series,” said PCR-Tough Gear team owner Rivera.
