Arcano, Gonzales top Herma Group media golf tourney

MANILA, Philippines – The Inquirer Golf Magazine’s Jong Arcano fired a systems 36 net two-under-par 70 on Wednesday to win Class A honors in the well-attended Herma Group Media Invitational golf tournament at Wack Wack’s West course in Mandaluyong.

Arcano birdied hole Nos. 11 and 13 for a gross of 81 to nip Inquirer News Editor Jun Engracia by a shot with Philippine STAR sports editor Lito Tacujan finishing third with a level 72. Musong Castillo, also of the Inquirer, was fourth with a 73.

Defense secretary and hot presidential candidate Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro was the tournament’s guest of honor and was on hand to help organizer, sportsman-businessman Hermie Esguerra, award the prizes to the winners.

Ernie Gonzales, sports features editor of the Inquirer, and Delfin Perez of the Manila Bulletin, ruled Class B and C after firing rounds of 75 and 79, respectively. Mon Tomeldan of the Standard returned a 78 and was second to Gonzales.

Teddyvic Melendres, the Inquirer sports editor, was runner-up to Perez with a net 82.

More than 30 players coming from various newspaper beats took part in the 18-hole event as mediamen got the chance to know Teodoro more.
