MANILA, Philippines – Around 600 lady jins including members of the national team pool are expected to show their wares in the 2009 Smart All Women’s taekwondo championships on May 31 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
“This is going to be an interesting, exciting competition because our finest lady campaigners in the sport will be tested by promising and future stars,” said Philippine Taekwondo Association president Robert Aventajado.
Among the national pool athletes who could flex their muscles in the tournament are two-time Olympian Toni Rivero, Jyra Lizardo, Sugar Catalan, Beatriz Ventura, Caryn Pilongo and Sandra Santosidad.
Other national athletes might not be available because they are preparing for the 9th ATF Asean championships slated in Vietnam.
Participants in the one-day event organized by PTA and supported by Smart Communications, PLDT, Philippine Sports Commission and Milo will come from PTA affiliates and branches in Metro Manila and the provinces as well as the different military commands.
