MANILA, Philippines – Action in the 2009 WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) circuit resumes tomorrow with Alabang out to duplicate its first round romp at home with another solid stint at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Antipolo.
The Alabang ladies took two of the three division titles disputed in the first leg in their turf last month while finishing runner-up in the other category to underscore their domination of the field in the early going of the circuit.
But it will be a different scenario at the wind-raked, up-and-down Antipolo layout, which offers a different kind of challenge for the competing field vying for top honors in team play as well as in the individual competition.
Alabang, bannered by Marilyn Reyes, Fenina Gorres, Rita Horan and Lorna Tabuena, assembled a 147 aggregate under the PAL scoring system to post a five-point victory over Canlubang and cop the Class A crown in the kickoff leg of the annual series organized by WGAP.
Canlubang, the defending overall champion, had a 142, while Sta. Elena finished third with a 136.
Forest Hills wound up fourth with a 135 but the hosts are expected to flash their familiarity with the hazard-laden layout in a bid to bounce back and challenge for the leg crown.
Focus will also be on Riviera’s Beth Menchavez, who will be gunning for a second straight win in the individual competition after topping the premier class of the event at Alabang. Joyce Duque of Alabang also goes all out to make it two-in-row in Class B along with Ok Young Kwon of Valley in Class C.
Alabang also goes for another win in Class C and will try to get back at Southwoods in Class B.
The other teams competing are Sta. Elena, Tagaytay Highlands, Villamor, Wack Wack, Valley Golf, Manila Golf, Riviera, Orchard, Phil. Navy and Aguinaldo.
Events on tap are the Classes A, B and C with a maximum of 10 players for each squad in each division with the aggregate best four scores counting for the team’s score.
Villamor will host the third leg on June 15-16.
