Best cockers vie in Pacquiao Prestige Cup

MANILA, Philippines – The best cockfighters in the country once again converge in one big stage, competing in the Manny Pacquiao Prestige Cup at the Araneta Coliseum Tuesday.

Presented by no less than the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer, the event is a five-cock derby which could be a true test of speed, power and fighting style among RP’s champion winged gladiators.

The Manny Pacquiao Prestige Cup is held just a week after the 2009 World Slasher Cup Eight-Cock Invitational Derby which drew a record number of participants with over a hundred.

“This fight is for those with nerves of steel,” said Manny Atacador, Araneta Center chief operating officer.

All competing gamefowls must weigh within the limits of 1.9-2.45 kilograms with the submission of weights scheduled tomorrow from 2-10 p.m.

Among the early confirmed entries were Ito Ynares, Boy Marzo, Philip Chiongbian and Chavit Singson, Patrick Antonio, James Uy and Allan Siaco, Ronnie Puno, Bong Pineda, Tony Kho, Nene Araneta, Wakee Salud, Butch Pichay, Eddie Araneta, Jesry Palmares, Biboy Enriquez, Jun Topacio, Gerry Ramos, Antonio Lim, Pol Estrellado, Jojo Pilongo and Lito Cay, Cito Alberto, Dory Du, Marcel Julao, Rollie Gabon, Rodel Castales and Claude Bautista.
