MANILA, Philippines - Pelagio Alcantara and Ed Gaspi rallied in the four-ball format to bag the overall championship in the eighth Forest Hills Invitational presented by Hyundai and Golforce at Forest Hills in Antipolo recently.
Alcantara-Gaspi tallied 45 points for a 128 total even as Raffy Garcia-Jaime Fernandez triumphed in the low gross division after pooling 72 points in aggregate play and 38 in four-ball for a 110 total.
Edgar Lee and Mike Morada settled for the Group I championship, two points behind Alcantara-Gaspi in the overall race, after totaling 81-45, with the Korean tandem of Eun Kong-kim and Weon Kang finishing second.
More than 150 teams made up of members and their guests teed off in the four-day event with club manager Romy Carlos promising an even bigger tournament for next year.
Another Korean pair in Cho Sung-il and Jin Hyuk-yoon prevailed in Group II action, nipping the Alvin Lee-Willy Tee Ten combine, 127-125, in one of the tightly fought divisions in the tournament backed by Club Car, Pioneer Insurance, Taishan Insurance, Texas Eagle, Yamaha golf carts, Sanyo Steel, Pagcor Parañaque and Sun Cellular.
