Bulls seek 7th win in row; junior baseball tiff unfolds

MANILA, Philippines – Streaking Batangas tries to stretch its win run to seven games as it faces a resurgent Manila side today at resumption of action in Baseball Phils. Series 5 at the Rizal Memorial baseball stadium.

The Bulls and the Sharks duel in the 7 a.m. opener while Dumaguete squares off with Forward Taguig at 10:30 a.m. in a duel of struggling teams.

Meanwhile, the country’s premier baseball series brings its act to Muntinlupa City with Cebu clashing with Alabang at the Alabang Country Club at 10:30 a.m.

This marks the first time that games will be held outside of the Rizal baseball stadium in line with the organizing Community Sports Inc.’s effort to reach out to more fans.

The Junior Baseball Philippines (JBP), featuring players aged 14 to 18, also makes its inaugural games today at the Rizal baseball and Alabang fields.

The Cagayan Carabaos mix it up with the Alabang Tigers at the ACC at 2 p.m while the Marikina Indians take on the Quezon City Angels at the Rizal stadium, also at 2 p.m.

The defending champion Dolphins suffered their first setback last Saturday losing to the Sharks, 3-1, with their return match last Sunday suspended due to the three-hour limit with both teams tied at 9 at the end of regulation.

The Tigers, on the other hand, hope to bounce back from back-to-back lopsided setbacks to the Unibikers (12-3 and 13-3) last week with a victory against the Dolphins on their turf.

The tournament is sponsored by Gatorade, Industrial Enterprises Inc., Philippine Transmarine Carriers Inc., Harbour Centre Inc., and the Heritage Park with partners Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Philippine Amateur Baseball Association, Philippine Umpires Association and DZSR Sports Radio.
