MANILA, Philippines - Some 120 drivers hope to firm up their bids for the titles at stake as the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series resumes tomorrow at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Drag racing director Fil Gulfin said the postponed races will start at 8 a.m., after which the third leg follows.
The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corp., Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama and Aeromed.
The event also features the father-son duel between San Mariano, Isabela Mayor Go and his son Ed Christian Go for solo leadership in the Pro Class.
Both share the lead with identical 15 points. Mayor Edgar Go was a former champion who’s seeking a big comeback in the local drag racing scene while Ed Christian is looking forward to his first championship belt this season.
Making it a big family affair is Ed Christopher Go, who’s just close behind with 10 points in a three-way share of second place together with Vannitec’s Why Why Dagondon and Jonathan Tiu.
Another unpredictable race is the Sportsman class where Mods Mojden of the Source, Lennel Diaz of Mohspeed and Akim Cleofe of Alps Racing dispute solo leadership.
The three are deadlocked with 15 points apiece. Making it more complicated are privateer Michael Henzon, Kon Lopez Dee of Montavita and Rex Lat of TMC who are all also tied for second with 10 apiece.
Likewise, Jeanette Go of JCT-Blanche Racing also hopes to reassert her supremacy against male rivals in the Hotstreet division.
The top lady dragster is eyeing her second straight crown this year as she hopes to repeat her feat against Boy Francisco of Team Ready, Cholo Dayrit of Forced Speed and Juan Miguel Gutierrez of Mohspeed.
Also hoping for a big win is Jonathan Young of JCT-Blanche Racing, who aims to fortify his solo leadership in the Expert class against Junmar Tabalino of Kool Plus and H3 Motorsports drivers John Kalaw and Bong Hilario.
