MANILA, Philippines - NSBA-White Lily I and Royal-BPBE emerged as team champions, respectively, in the recent 34th Grand and 14th National Youth duckpin bowling championships at Marketplace in Mandaluyong City.
NSBA whipped Pampanga, 355 pins to 326, in the men’s team finals while Royal-BPBE trimmed NSBA-White Lily II, 320-312, in the ladies’ division after ousting Regal Fairies, 344-321, in the first stepladder match.
Royal’s Ricky Tagulinao and Regal’s Sonia Quitalig bagged the men’s and ladies’ singles titles, respectively, in the tourney organized by the Philippine Duckpin Bowling Council and sponsored by Sen. Edgardo Angara, Mr. and Mrs. Manny Manosca, Emperador Distiller Inc. and the Philippine Olympic Committee.
Tagulinao toppled SDB’s Ledo Goma, 216-193, while Quitalig beat NSBA’s Grace Guico, 224-210.
Incirba’s Wee Jay Palma retained his youth crown by downing ICBA’s Marc Leo Layson, 330-320, in a battle of nine-year-olds.
“Palma Is the star of the future,” said PHIDBC president Inez Magbual, herself a top duckpin bowling campaigner.
Incirba’s Ding de Guzman ruled the senior division by whipping Soda’s Edith Matriz.
Special awards went to Ruben Aguilon (451) and Geena Gregorio (408) as top individual qualifiers, Monlu-Rookies (1168) and MOBA-NHU (1093) as team qualifiers, Romeo Empedrad (176) and Rose Layoc (159) for high individual single and Royal-RMN (417) and MOBA-NHU (403) for high team single.
