UST deals Letran first defeat in FCBL
MANILA, Philippines - Kevin Ferrer hit a crucial three-pointer in the closing seconds to lift University of Santo Tomas to a 94-93 squeaker over Letran in the TriDharma Mktg. Corp Filipino-Chinese Basketball League second Freego Jeans’ Cup at Buddhacare Gym near Araneta Ave. in QC over the weekend.
Ferrer’s triple shattered a 91-all count that gave the Tiger Cubs a 94-91 lead with 11 seconds left in the contest.
The Squires misfired from the three-point arc at the buzzer as they took their first loss in the tournament backed by Energen Cereal Energy Drink, Hi-Smart Vitamins and Nutri-C Juice.
Ferrer, named the Hi-Smart Player of the Game, led Santo Tomas (2-2) with 32 points to snap a two-game skid in the high-school cagefest backed by f’g Revolution Denim, Dickies Underwear, Old Chinatown Koptitiam, Clincher Packaging Tape, Nougat Candy, Colt Commercial, Powerbest Marketing Inc. and Star Galaxy Industrial Fabricator Inc.
Jarelan Tampus finished with 30 points for Letran (2-1) while Glenn Khobuntin added 17.
In the other game, La Salle Zobel walloped Chian Kai Shek College, 111-62, for its third straight win and a 3-1 mark in the tournament. Arnold Von Opstal led the Junior Archers with 19 points. John Ngo had 21 for CKSC (1-3).
