Sharks sink Dolphins

-

MANILA, Philippines – Hurler Joseph Albindo shut out Cebu in the first six innings as the Manila Sharks stunned the erstwhile unbeaten Dolphins, 3-1, to seize solo second in Baseball Philippines’ Series 5 at the Rizal Memorial baseball stadium yesterday.

Albindo, a member of the National U Bulldogs, held the Dolphins scoreless in the first six frames before Charlie Labrador took over to finish off their rivals for their fourth win in five starts.

Cebu slid to third with a 3-1 card.

National team members Rommel Roja and Roel Empacis provided the firepower for Manila with the former breaking a scoreless tie in the fourth with an RBI single that scored second base runner Francis Candela.

Earlier, the Dumaguete Uni-Bikers routed the Alabang Tigers, 12-3, behind Marlon Caspillo’s three-run home run in the sixth inning.

Later in the day, Batangas outslugged Forward Taguig, 5-4, in 12 innings to chalk up its fifth straight win.
