Junior Archers turn back Baby Tams in FCBL
MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle-Zobel waxed hot in the third quarter then weathered the last-ditch rally of Far Eastern University to fashion out an 83-78 victory in the TriDharma Mktg. Corp Filipino-Chinese Basketball League second Freego Jeans’ Cup at Buddhacare Gym near Araneta Ave. in QC last Tuesday.
After trailing, 37-40, at halftime, the Junior Archers outscored the Baby Tams, 30-12, at resumption of the game en route to their second straight win in the high school cagefest backed by Energen Cereal Energy Drink, Hi-Smart Vitamins and Nutri-C Juice.
Arnold Von Opstal led La Salle with 20 points and copped the Hi-Smart Player of the Game honors. Terrence Romeo’s 42 points went for naught as FEU absorbed its fourth straight loss after an opening game win.
The Junior Archers now tote a 2-1 slate in the tourney supported by f’g Revolution Denim, Dickies Underwear, Old Chinatown Koptitiam, Clincher Packaging Tape, Nougat Candy, Colt Commercial, Powerbest Marketing Inc. and Star Galaxy Industrial Fabricator Inc.
Tournament leader Ateneo kept its unbeaten slate by beating Jose Rizal U, 93-78, while snapping its rival’s own three-game win run.
Kiefer Ravena had 11 points to lead the Blue Eaglets, who streaked to their fifth straight win. Joshua Saret paced the Light Bombers (3-2) with 28 points.
San Beda also notched its second win in three games with a 109-49 rout of winless St. Jude (0-5).
