MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U primed up for its duel with University of Santo Tomas tomorrow as it held off St. Benilde, 25-10, 18-25, 25-14, 25-22, yesterday to extend its win run to three in the sixth Shakey’s V-League at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.
Rachel Daquis, still trying to recover from a bout with flu, fired 23 points, including two blocks and a down-the-line hit that anchored the Lady Tams’ fightback from 13-17 down in the fourth set for a 23-21 cushion on their way to victory, their third straight.
The Lady Blazers, who took the second set in impressive fashion, actually closed within at 21-22 behind Cindy Velasquez and setter Ren Agero but Daquis stepped up to foil their charge and ensure the win for the Lady Tams.
Cherry Vivas and Maica Morada backed Daquis with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Shaira Gonzalez made three hits as she was used sparingly while trying to recover from an ankle injury.
Guest players Maureen Penetrante and Ivy Remulla combined for 21 hits for St. Benilde, which fell to 1-3.
