Falcons prey on Red Lions in Filoil Flying V
MANILA, Philippines - Adamson worked hard defensively throughout and went to Jan Colina for the winning basket in the closing seconds as it pulled off a 54-53 nail-biter over NCAA titlist San Beda in the Filoil-Flying V MVP Cup at the San Juan Arena yesterday.
Colina finished with eight points including the game-winner coming off an assist by Leo Canuday with 9.9 seconds left.
“Our defense gave us this morale-boosting win,” said coach Leo Austria as his Falcons rebounded from a sorry 70-71 loss in overtime to the JRU Heavy Bombers Wednesday.
The Falcons did employ tough defense, holding the Red Lions scoreless in the last two minutes of the game.
The Red Lions had a chance to salvage the game but Chico Tirona missed a teardrop shot in the closing seconds.
San Beda continued to struggle in this tourney, reeling with a four straight defeat.
Allen Ethrone paced the winning team with 10 points while Bambam Gamalinda topscored for the Red Lions with 20. – Celest Flores
