Juntaphil Metro age group tennis slated at RMSC

MANILA, Philippines – The First Gen Juntaphil Metro Age Group Tennis Championships, featuring the country’s top and rising junior players, gets going May 4 with a banner field expected to vie for top honors in various divisions at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

Over 300 players in the singles and doubles events took part in last year’s staging of the event, sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) with Wilson as official balls, with Juntaphil expecting to draw a record field this year.

The event, sponsored by Smart Communications and presented by First Gen Corp., is the highest-ranking among the local tournaments, offering 200 points to the champion of each category.

Winners of the recent age-group tournaments are in the fold, including Mimo Tomacruz, Christian San Andres, Eric Olivarez Jr., Betto Orendain, Paul Nicole Magaway in the boys while Maia Balce, Marian Jade Capadocia, Alexandra Louise Lopez, Samantha Coyiuto and Shannin Olivarez in the girls side.

Events on tap are the 10-under unisex and 12-under, 14-under, 16-under and 18-under for boys and girls singles and 14-under and 18-under for boys and girls doubles.

Registration for the seven-day tournament ending May 10 is ongoing. For details, call up Philta office at 5236415. Deadline is May 1 at 12 noon.
