Pinoy beach games under way in Boracay

BORACAY, Philippines – Local talents take center stage today as some 1,000 kids take part in the first Tropang Growee Pinoy Beach Games here.

Eight sports will be disputed at three different venues among participants aged 14 years old and below from various barangays and schools around the island while entries from nearby towns as well as those on vacation here are also expected to compete.

Sponsored by Growee Vitamins and organized by the Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management, Inc., the Pinoy Beach Games features frisbee, beach volleyball, beach football, beach athletics, beach sepak takraw, long course shoreline swimming and beach chess, and the indigenous game of patintero. A total of 579 medals will be at stake in the four-day meet.

Growee brand manager Sherwin Arceo will formally declare the meet open at Hotel Isla Boracay after the traditional parade of participants. Also gracing the rites are Malay Councilor Wilbec Gelito, Dolan brand manager Dennis Dioquino, local host committee chair Capt. Levy Gaac and chief organizer Darren Evangelista of EASMI.

“We are bringing indoor games to the beach. It’s an exciting concept and Growee is proud to treat the children of Boracay this unique event where they are the stars,” Arceo said.
