MANILA, Philippines - Davao City will host anew the Primovit Futures Basketball League (FBL) 3 on 3 Baller Battle May 23 -24, the third time that a leg of this primarily school-based streetball game is being held in this city.
Around 50 teams are expected to participate in this tournament serving as the second leg of the series for 2009, following an earlier leg in Manila last February, with defending junior boys’ and girls champion teams from Holy Child and Assumption College of Davao, respectively, together with last year’s midgets division champion Emar Learning Center and Ateneo de Davao in the mini division.
Other schools who have expressed interest to join this annual tournament also supported by Gatorade, Philips Peripherals, Accord Capital, Friends of Mar Roxas, and gameface.ph, are Holy Cross College of Davao, University of Immaculate Conception, Davao Christian High School, St. Peter’s College-Toril, Davao Nikki Jinkal International School, Jose Maria College, University of Mindanao, AGRO Foundation College, Davao Central High School, Brokenshire School, International School, and Davao Jones College among others.
Venue for the tournament is the Gaisano South Sky Gym.
“We have been seeing a steady growth of this league in Mindanao and we will continue developing 3 on 3 as it is already recognized by FIBA with SBP conducting its own national series, FBL is basically a school-based grassroots development program and the league has been expanding its horizons and adding new venues every year or its events, “ said chief organizer Nino Sinco of Futures Sports & Events.
Deadline for submission of entry requirements is on May 15 while the team screening will be held on May 21, according to Davao City FBL coordinator Rico Biliran, contact number 0920 6079207.
