Balce, Olivarez triumph in Toby's summer festival

MANILA, Philippines – Top seeded netters Maia Bernadette Balce and Eric Olivarez easily won over their respective foes in the eighth Toby’s Summer Festival at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.

Balce blanked Ingrid Mariz Gonzales, 8-0, to reach the semifinals of this weeklong netfest presented by Toby’s Sports and Prince racquets, and sponsored by Equipe, Polar Heart Rate Monitor, Thermos, Kontrol USA, Philta and Futures Tennis Foundation, and Action & Fitness Magazine.

The eleven-year old Olivarez outplayed separate rivals in two divisions yesterday to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2-under and 14-under boys side.

Promising fourth seed Bianca Ann Marie Cruz emerged as Balce’s next rival after she toppled Marielle Alcantara, 8-1.
