Yee fires 68 in jungolf elims

-

MANILA, Philippines - Miggy Yee fired a four-under-par 68 but could only take a one-stroke lead in boys Class C even as Jobim Carlos and Miguel Tabuena stormed ahead in their respective divisions in the rain-shortened Callaway Junior World qualifying tournament at the Legends course of Manila Southwoods in Carmona, Cavite.

Yee inched ahead of AR Ramos, who fired a 69, as they took the headstart in the Class C race after the first round of tourney on Monday was cancelled when most of the 170 entries failed to finish due to intermittent rains.

Carlos and Tabuena were impressive in their rounds of 73 and 74 that put them ahead in Classes A and B, respectively. Carlos moved up by four on Wolen Superal while Tabuena opened up a two-shot lead over Bino dela Paz and Aristeo Mata in Class B.

Sponsors of the two-part, 108-hole qualifying for the country’s bets to the Callaway Junior World meet are Philippine Airlines, Diamond Motor Corp., Unilever, Ottica Corp., Club Marinduque, Goin Straight, Powerade/Coca-Cola, Callaway and Golf Depot.

Philippe Palanca, meanwhile, took command in Class E, Kristoffer Arevalo paced Class D and Josh Jorge led Class F.

The leaders in the girls division were Regina de Guzman, Andie Unson, Daniella Uy, Abby Arevalo, Nicole Abelar and Annika Castro.
