Lim hands P1-million bonus to Donaire, Viloria

-

MANILA, Philippines – Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday awarded P1 million to Nonito Donaire and Brian Viloria for their amazing victories in last Sunday’s twin title fights at the Araneta Coliseum.

Saying the two fighters’ victories over Mexican rivals brought so much honor for the Filipinos and the nation, Lim gave Donaire and Viloria P500,000 cash each during the press conference after they were feted in a motorcade around the city.

The two champion fighters were later named adopted sons of the city.

Denver Cuello and Drian Francisco, the other boxers who scored knockout wins over their respective rivals in the undercard also received P50,000 each in incentives.

Earlier, Lim organized a motorcade around the city’s major thoroughfares for the boxing champions, whom he lauded for bringing so much pride to the country.

Also present during awards rites were Solar Sports Entertainment chief executive officer Wilson Tieng and Manila first district Councilor Arlene Koa, who filed a resolution congratulating and recognizing the four boxers’ exemplary performance in the field of boxing.

The new boxing heroes thanked Lim for the recognition with Donaire saying he drew strength and inspiration from the support of the people.

Donaire knocked out the previously undefeated Raul Martinez to retain his IBF/IBO flyweight titles.

Viloria stopped IBF champion Ulises Solis, who was making his ninth title defens, in the 11th round.    – Sandy Araneta
