MANILA, Philippines - Cesar Yarte knocked out Iranian Razi Jabbari with an overhand right in the fifth and final round to emerge as the middleweight champion of the Fearless Fighting Championship at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City over the weekend.
A boxing instructor at Maic’s Boxing and Fitness Gym in Marikina City, the 5-foot-9 Yarte overcame Jabbari’s ground-and-pound game with a superb show of jujitsu skills before knocking down the Iranian in the fourth round with a barrage of punches.
Yarte nearly ended the fight in the third of the five-minute rounds when he punished Jabarri with a standing choke hold.
The end came early in the fifth round when, choosing to go toe-to-toe with Yarte, Jabbari snapped a left jab which the Filipino countered with a right to the jaw for the knockout.
The fight was one of two main events in the FFC mixed martial arts tournament.
