Magnolia adds flavor to international karting series
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Karting got a big boost with the entry of Magnolia as the title sponsor of the internationally flavored 2009 Magnolia Karting Super Series second leg set April 4-5 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
“We’re very happy that Magnolia, which has developed excellent nutritious products fit for young kids and teens, joined us in the thrust for the development of Philippine karting as we look forward to developing future world champions competing in prestigious international competitions,” said chief organizer and RP motorsports godfather Johnny Tan.
AUTS Racing teammates Bobby Domingo and Indy Villalon are eyeing their second straight wins up against equally tough rivals in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored Magnolia, San Miguel Corporation, Palmer Asia Inc. – The Fire and Security Expert – Motorstar and Aeromed.
Domingo is hoping for a more consistent performance as he tries to turn back John Alvarez of Maranello-San Miguel-Marcelo Racing, Andres Calma of San Miguel Corporation and Jet Racing’s Javi Benitez and Franco Reyes anew in the premiereROK Overall division.
In the kickoff leg, Domingo had a shaky start but impressed the huge crowd with his astonishing comeback from 10th place at the back of the grid to a big victory that put him a step ahead in this year’s race for coveted Karter of the Year diadem.
Villalon, on the other hand, seeks a second win that will fortify his title defense in the Formula SL Expert class up against teammate Joseph Castelar, Milo Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear and lady karter Yvana Carangan.
Competition is expected to be tough with the presence of six foreign entries They are Hongkong-based Matthew Solomon, Singaporean Christian Villanueve, Ready2Race Korean guest driver Daniel Park, Japanese Marino Sato and Malaysian Darma Hutomo in the Mini-ROK Class and Filipino-British Carl Pollington of PCR-Tough Gear Racing who’s seeking his second straight win in the Baby ROK division
Hoping to gain his share of the limelight is Ready2Race karter Von Medrano who is seeking a repeat over comebacking AUTS driver AV Rubio in the Formula SL Heavy.
