MANILA, Philippines - TonyKart factory driver Stefano Marcelo of San Miguel Corporation-Marcelo Racing delivered for the Philippines anew when he finished eighth among the top 10 finishers recently in the kickoff leg of the British Super One Series PF International raceway at Newark, England.
The British Super One Series was the springboard for the successful careers of renowned racing champs Lewis Hamilton, Anthony Davidson, Jensen Button and the likes, and is known for its reputation as the toughest in Europe due to the ultra-fast pace of the English format.
For a first-timer in the British Super One Series, it’s a big miracle to pull through the finals or let alone finish the qualifying heats. The 16-year-old Marcelo became the only Asian to do so, placing eighth among 36 karters.
“This is for the Philippines, and we’ve proved again that Filipino karters can be at par in prestigious international events. I’m glad we pulled through, it was the toughest yet we joined.,” said Marcelo.
“We were warned that you only get 10 laps to do your work to sort yourself out at the front of the pack. True enough, the British were brutal and unforgiving that it’s ordinary to see kart flying now and then during the race,” he said.
