BAGUIO, Philippines – Calamba Doctors Hospital A pooled 137 points while Camp John Hay Golf Club 2 assembled 115 points to pace their respective divisions at the start of the Camp John Hay Suites 21st Philippine Corporate Cup at Camp John Hay Golf Club here late Tuesday.
Eli Malaya sizzled with 48 points under the Molave scoring system while Dom Amistad and John Calica chipped in 46 and 43, respectively, as the Calamba golfers seized a three-point lead over Camp John Hay Suites I in Group 2 of the 36-hole event spread over three days.
The hosts also drew 48 points from Jimmy Borromeo but Ed Montenegro and Bayani Tecson could only churn out 45 and 41 points, respectively, as CJH Suites I settled for a 134 in the four-to-play, three-to-count format event sponsored by Rudy Project, Golforce, Inc., Club Leisure Management Corp., Rizgolf Sports Marketing, CJH Manor Hotel, Fil-Estate Urban Development Corp and Warbird Securities and Investigation Agency.
Michael Tan frolicked with 52 points and Imarflex I stayed in the hunt with a 132 that included a 42 from Henry Ng and a 38 from Jean Morri while Fagioli Coffee Club shot a 131 for fourth behind Willie Maldia’s 49, Vic Rebosura’s 43 and Oscar Rebosura’s 39 points.
Defending Group 2 champion Naktaynay, despite Jeff Razon’s 50 points, struggled with a 123 to fall in sixth place behind No. 5 MCCI 16 (126), 14 points behind the Calamba squad heading into the final 18 holes of the event.
CJH Golf Club 2, meanwhile, showed the way in Group 3 with a 115, two points ahead of Rizgolf 4, which pooled a 113, while ABGC Team I stood two points adrift at 111 and Fairways and Bluewater Piedras Negras made a 109, ensuring a scrambling finish.
A similar windup is expected in Group 4 with Brewyard Shimadsu, with a 114, posting a shaky one-point lead over Syleenor I and 2 while Manor and Dreamland Foods Corp. 107 and 106, respectively.
CJH Golf Club, behind Jong Won Park’s 53 and the 52 points each of Fred Puckett and Nelson Eslao, dominated the seniors class as it came through with a 157 to open a whopping 33-point lead over ABW Leaves of Live and Calamba Doctors Hospital B, which both had 124s.
