Domingo rallies to nail down Super Series win
MANILA, Philippines - Bobby Domingo staged a strong comeback in the final heat to hack out his first win in the kickoff of the 2009 Philippine Karting Super Series at the Carmona Circuit Philippines.
It was Domingo’s second karting triumph this year after earlier clinching victory last Feb. 15 in Round 1 of the 2009 PAGCOR Sports KF2-KF3 Series against visiting ace Japanese karters.
He had a rough start as he slipped down to 11th place in the pre-final heat after figuring in a mishap that relegated him to the tail of the 13-man field.
However, displaying driving skills and bravado under wet conditions, Domingo pulled an amazing feat in the final heat, passing all nine karters in front of him to wrest the lead in the first two laps.
From thereon, it was smooth sailing for Domingo the rest of the way as he even built a commanding lead by half a lap at the end of the race.
Domingo wrapped up the 20-lap race in 17 minutes, 7.110 seconds or a far 18.755 seconds ahead of runner-up John Alvarez to rule the premier ROK overall class where the Karter of the Year will be chosen.
“Determination was a major factor in this win as I was also surprised how I did it. That gave me more confidence to rise above adversities and push my limits until the race is over,” said Domingo
“It’s a great way to start the season and I’m looking forward to more consistent performances in future race to push to my serious bid for the coveted Karter of the Year award,” he added.
