University of Santo Tomas, Colegio San Agustin spikers arrange title clash
MANILA, Philippines - University of Santo Tomas and Colegio San Agustin downed separate rivals on Sunday to set up a title showdown in the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League at the Arellano gym in Manila.
With Alyssa Valdez, Maru Banaticla and Den Santiago combining for 37 points, 10 kills and five blocks, the UST tossers blasted Dela Salle-Lipa, 25-22, 25-17, 25-16, to clinch the first finals slot.
An hour later, CSA made it, too, as it beat Angeles University Foundation in a thrilling match that lasted almost two hours, 25-15, 25-21, 27-29, 25-23.
UST and CSA will meet at 2:30 p.m.this Sunday at the same venue to dispute the title in this tournament backed by Petron Treats, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, MIkasa and Asics.
The fiery trio of Ingrid Reyes, Denden Lazaro and Natasha Faustino carried the load for CSA, combining for 39 points and 12 kills in a game where AUF committed a total of 12 service errors.
The losses sent AUF and Dela Salle-Lipa into the battle for third spot scheduled at 1 p.m.
In Division B (developmental division), it will be St. Francis of Assisi Bacoor against Valenzuela National High School.
