MANILA, Philippines - Hoops School, the most advanced basketball school in the country today, is opening its summer clinics in various venues in Metro Manila.
Registration is open to boys and girls who wish to learn the fundamentals of the game. Advanced students or those who have attended Hoops in the past, may enroll in Hoops “Next Level” basketball school.
Hoops, now on its eighth year, is founded by former PBL commissioner and PBA team manager Charlie Favis, and PBA seven-time best import Bobby Parks.
Hoops has brought its program to over 70 schools nationwide.
With its new basketball technology, such as the Noah Select Arc and Shot Analyzer, a player gets an automatic voice feedback of his shooting arch’s measurement, telling him if his shot is all right or not. The Noah is currently being used by various NBA and European club teams.
Hoops founder Favis trained with coach Bruce Kreutzki of the Mark Price Basketball Shooting Lab in Suwanee, Georgia in the use of the Noah Select Computer/Camera Analyzer.
This year, Hoops says it will unveil new products and equipment guaranteed to improve shooting and ball handling.
For P1,650 registration fee, enrollees attend seven two-hour sessions of training under veteran trainers and coaches. They will also get free items, such as the Rite Flite Training Ball (to improve spins and rotation), reversible jersey, sports bottle and sports bag.
Hoops drills come mostly from the US 5-Star Camp where Lebron James, Vince Carter and Michael Jordan learned their basic basketball fundamentals. Hoops coach Pat Desiderio was an instructor at the 5-Star Camp in Yonkers, New York.
Aside from starting the “free everything” program for kids, Hoops also was first to invest in audio visual equipment for video presentations, to augment the physical drills of the kids. Kids also get to use training aids such as the pure shot shooting guide, the Rite-Way Ball, the elbow guide, dribbling gloves, and heads up goggles.
Ray Ray Parks, the 15-year-old basketball sensation who was born in the Philippines and who averaged 25 points per game in Memphis, learned his basketball fundamentals at the Hoops School, attending four Hoops camps, or seven sessions each, before flying to the US. A Memphis newspaper described Ray Ray as a “finesse” player.

Over the summer vacation, other camps will be at Faith in Tanauan, Batangas, Divine Light in Molino, Cavite, Manresa School in Parañaque, OLMS in Commonweath and IS Montessori in Bocaue, Bulacan.
