St. Francis claims first UCLAA title
MANILA, Philippines - Host St. Francis of Assisi College reasserted its mastery over Philippine College of Criminology, 70-57, to sweep the first Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA) senior basketball championship at the Astrodome last Monday.
The Doves, behind Rex Leynes and Erwilson Santos, took charge early, fended off the Enforcers’ fightback in the middle quarters before cruising to the victory in the last period.
St. Francis, which took the opener, 77-52, held the Enforcers to their second lowest output this season. PCCr normed 75 points heading into the finals.
The junior PCCr team, meanwhile, routed St. Jude College, 86-68, for the crown.
St. Jude had earlier collared the men’s and women’s volleyball titles.
PCCr top gunner Arjy Dionero was also held scoreless in the first half while Leynes finished with a game-high 38 points, including 16 in the first two periods.
Mang Inasal, Air21, Besuto prawn crackers, Villa De Oro Boracay, Magarbo, Magnolia, Basketbolista Magazine and www.gameface.ph were the event’s backers.
St. Francis salvaged third place in the juniors division after dumping National College of Business and Arts, 81-65, while De Ocampo Memorial College took second runner-up honors in the seniors level, beating Las Piñas College, 64-67.
