Students of the University of the East will have the chance to showcase their skills and join the school’s various varsity teams in the UE Annual Intramurals, which starts Tuesday at the UE Manila Gym 5.
The university-wide sportsfest, organized by the UE physical education department, starts with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.
The annual Intramurals, part of the UE students’ wellness program, also aims to scout for potential varsity athletes for UE’s training pool.
UE president Ester Garcia will give an inspirational message and do the ceremonial toss during the opening game of the basketball competitions. She will be assisted by UE chancellors Antonieta Ibe (Manila) and Fedeserio Camarao (Caloocan ).
The UE Pep Squad will perform spectacular routines, acrobatic stunts and the classic pyramid formation to enliven the crowd while the UE Band will provide the background music during the parade of athletes.
Seeing action in basketball and volleyball for men and women are about 58 teams from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences Manila and Caloocan, Business Administration (CBA) Manila and Caloocan, Computer Studies and Systems, Dentistry, Education, Engineering Manila and Caloocan, Fine Arts, Law, Graduate School, Secondary Laboratory School (SLS), and UERMMMC’s Colleges of Physical Therapy and Medicine.
The UE Intramurals’ defending champions are CBA Manila in men’s basketball and SLS in women’s basketball. SLS also swept the crowns for the men’s and women’s volleyball last school year.
Chess and swimming events are also included in the month-long competition.
