University of the East outlasted Hope Christian High School in a duel of unbeaten teams to sweep Bracket A in the Competitive division of the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League at the Arellano gym in Manila over the weekend.
Lorielyn Longalong and Shieda Nebrida delivered the hits that mattered most to lead the UE spikers past HCHS, 26-24, 26-24, for a 4-0 card in the elims of the event supported by Petron Treats, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin Donuts and Mikasa.
Despite the loss, Hope also made it to the next round with a 3-1 slate.
In the Developmental division, Diliman Preparatory routed Assumption College, 25-9, 25-12, to lead Bracket B with a 2-0 record while Valenzuela National HS crushed Colegio de Santa Rosa, 25-13, 25-12, in Bracket A to clinch a berth in the crossover matches starting Feb. 21.
Over in Cebu City, Pajo National High School beat University of Southern Philippines, 25-17, 25-20, 14-25, 25-21, to win the Cebu phase and earn a place in the Tournament of Champions set April 1-4 in Bacolod City.
