Mikee, Yeng bring winning tradition to Burger King

-

MANILA, Philippines -- Yeng Guiao and Mikee Romero, two of the most respected figures in Philippine basketball, have joined forces to give Burger King a boost as the former Air21 franchise tries to create an immediate impact in the PBA’s next conference.

“When you are fighting a war, you would like the best general to be by your side at all times,” said Romero, set to come in as Burger King’s alternate governor in the season-ending PBA Fiesta Conference. “Coach Yeng is that general and I am very excited to work with him in the PBA.”

Romero said he expects Guiao to bring in an innovative, no-nonsense kind of coaching style that fits to the brand of system he would want to have in the league.

“We expect great things for our franchise with him,” said Romero, who also thanked majority owner Bert Lina and partner Lito Alvarez for the invitation to join their team.

For his part, Guiao said he is honored to link it up with the group with a winning basketball tradition.

“Mr. Romero and his organization are winners, a class act to follow and to be part of that is a privilege in itself,” said Guiao. “I just hope me and my staff can uphold their group’s winning tradition.”

The 37-year-old Romero’s Harbour Center has dominated the PBL the last four years, breaking league records and annexing an amazing five straight championships

Guiao, on the other hand, has five PBA titles which ranks him in fifth with Dante Silverio in the pro league’s all-time best coaches list. Burger King will be his fourth team in the PBA after Swift, Pepsi/Mobiline and Red Bull.
