Tagaytay City’s 14-year-old star Shanin Gonzales surpassed the Youth Asian Games qualifying mark as she bagged another air pistol gold medal in the Philippine National Shooting Association-NYDP (National Youth Development Program) first anniversary tournament last weekend at the Marines range in Taguig City.
A consistent gold medalist in the youth competitions, Gonzales tallied a total of 458.8 points in 50 shots to beat Ateneo’s Ruth Ricardo (454.4) and Assumption College’s Mica Padilla (440.0).
Gonzales carded 361 in the 40-shot eliminations to crack the 355 qualifying mark for the Youth Games in Singapore this July, and then posted 97.8 in the 10-shot finals.
Another Tagaytay bet, Carina Dela Victoria, ruled the women’s air rifle event of the tourney sponsored by Thermax Ltd., Spring Cooking Oil and Alfa Laval Phils.
Dela Victoria recorded 470.8 to take the gold medal. Quezon City’s Dianne Nicole Eufemio and University of Manila’s Venus Tan scored 467.7 and 466.7, respectively, to earn the silver and bronze medals.
