Oliver Gan and partner Erwin Vinluan combined for a 196 to capture the overall championship in the 20th Bill Shaw Golf Classic at Wack Wack’s West Course last weekend.
Gan’s teamup with Vinluan, a former national team player, produced a 62 in the best-ball format then the duo shot a 134 aggregate in the second round to top the member-guest team tournament held in honor of the club’s founder.
Lucio Tan Jr. and JR Tanpinco copped the low gross honors with a 289 with the tandem making a 62 in the best ball and a 142 in the aggregate format side of the annual event presented by Mercedes-Benz and CATS Motors.
Raoul Jorge and Richard Santos teamed up for a 196 to lead the division winners in the event, backed by Sharp Philippines, Montre-Watch Shop, Philippine Airlines, GNC, Outback Steakhouse, Sta. Elena Properties, Inc., AOWA Electronics Philippines, Madrigal Bayot Dev. Corp., PLDT, Pacsports, Kart Plaza, Turf Co., Abub’s Cebuana Native Lechon, Sec. Leandro Mendoza, Asia Brewery, PAL, St. Francis Square Development Corp. and The Plaza, Inc.
The Jorge-Santos pair shot a 62 in the best-ball and 134 in the aggregate to bag the Group I title, nipping the tandems of Hubert Lim-Dominic Hing (62-134-196) and Neptali Gonzales II-Gene Sison (62-134-196) in the countback.
Jonathan Ng and Jerry Tan also pooled a 196 from a 62 and 134 and edged the Mario Padilla-Steve Gerona and William Gatchalian-Willy Maldia tandems to capture the Group II plum.
