POC urged to set election guidelines
Several NSAs (national sports associations) yesterday asked the Philippine Olympic Committee executive council to come up with clear-cut guidelines on the conduct of their elections for them to be officially recognized by the sports body.
“Instead of meddling with NSA affairs, the POC should come up with a clear set of rules and regulations on what is needed for an NSA to have a POC observer when conducting its election,” said triathlon chief Tom Carrasco in yesterday’s POC General Assembly at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
Carrasco cited cycling and bowling as examples.
In cycling, Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino won the election as PhilCycling head but the POC instead recognized a renegade group headed by Rolando Hiso.
The POC also didn’t send a representative when the Philippine Bowling Congress held its election early this month. This developed as International Olympic Committee representative Frank Elizalde called on all NSAs to set aside their differences and unite in forming a competitive team that will participate in several international tournaments lined up this year. – Joey Villar
