Aunzo 4 shots adrift after 76 in Asia-Pacific tilt
Ferdie Aunzo wavered with a four-over 76 and dropped four strokes off Scot Gordon Yates, who seized control with a two-under halfway through the Mission Hills Asia-Pacific Amateur Open in China yesterday.
Aunzo, just one stroke off the pace at the start of the round, groped for form in windy condition and dropped three strokes in the last six holes for that 76 and a two-day haul of 147.
That was four shots off Yates, who took charge with a 143 for a one-stroke lead over Thai Vasin Sripattranusorn and Taiwanese Wen Ting Wu, who had 71 and 72, respectively, for 144s.
James Frazer fired the day’s best of 68 as he rallied from an opening 77 to be in fourth with a 145.
Rufino Bayron, the other ICTSI bet seeing action in the four-day championship, matched par 72 to be at 149 while Anthony Fernando skied to a 78 and stood nine shots off Yates at 152.
The other RP bets continued to flounder with Mark Fernando and Jhonnel Ababa tied at 153 after a 78 and a 75, respectively, and Dante Becierra and Peter Villaber at 154 after a 78 and a 77, respectively.
