Romero to be tapped RP five team manager?
Chances are coach Yeng Guiao and Mikee Romero will work together not just in the Burger King team but also in the RP squad competing in the FIBA Asia championship in China in August.
Red Bull’s Tony Chua is reportedly thinking of resigning as team manager of the RP team with Guiao having moved over to Burger King.
Sources said Chua has talked about the matter with PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios and Air21’s Lito Alvarez who confirmed it with The STAR.
“He (Tony Chua) asked me if Yeng is really now with us. He was thinking traditionally, the coach and the one who manages the national team come from one team,” said Alvarez.
“If they (the board) ask us, we’re certainly interested to manage the team. We’ll go through the process. If Tony resigns and the board gives us the assignment, I’ll nominate Mikee Romero,” Alvarez added.
The current PBL chairman and SBP board member, is set to come in as Burger King’s alternate representative to the PBA board.
Romero is no stranger to managing the national team, being the sponsor of the RP squads that played in the last two SEABA Champions Cups and the last SEA Games in Thailand.
“I’ll nominate Mikee since siya talaga ang may hilig dyan and he may have more time for that,” said Alvarez. – Nelson Beltran
