GM Gonzales Cup slated in Parañaque

The first GM Jayson Gonzales Chess Cup will be held on Jan. 17-18 at fourth floor of Perez Bldg., Doña Soledad cor. Australia Sts., Better Living, Parañaque City.

The event, sponsored by Mayor Florencio Bernabe and Magnolia Health Tea Drinks, is open to all non-titled players with NCFP 1950 below Standard Rating.

Gonzales has agreed to lend his name for the tournament in his effort to support the program of the organizing Barangay Don Bosco Chess Club (BDBCC), headed by Dr. Bong Perez, and the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP).

The champion will receive P3,000 while the two players will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively. Also on tap are the senior (60 yrs. above), kiddies (14 yrs. below), ladies and unrated divisions.

The event, a seven round Swiss system tournament, is supervised by the National Association of Philippine Chess Arbiters, Inc. (NAPCA) headed by chief arbiter Roland Liñan and sanctioned by the NCFP.
