Tiu rules Magnolia chessfest

Unseeded Sherwin Tiu upstaged the fancied bets to capture the first Saturday Magnolia 1950 below non-master rapid chess crown in Better Living, Parañaque City.

The tournament, sponsored by Mayor Florencio Bernabe and Magnolia Health Tea Drinks, drew 87 participants with Tiu taking home the top P3,000 purse and trophy.

Garry Garcia placed second while John Paul Lauron and Ervil Villa finished third and fourth, respectively.

The other category winners were Einstein Padua (senior), Ramel Ramilla (unrated), Cherryann Mejia and Paul Bersamina (kiddies) and Mary Joyce Fuerte (ladies).
