-

Japan, represented by a crack junior high school team from the Chiba Prefecture, scored five victories and drew one game against local teams to dominate the Philippine-Japan Friendship Baseball Games at the Sto. Nino grounds in Marikina City last week.

The Japanese, composed of 15-year-old players who placed third in the All-Japan Junior High School Championship, dazzled the local crowd with their spectacular plays and superb hitting in the three-day tournament hosted by the Philippine Tot Baseball and Marikina City.

Headed by Yoshio Kondo, executive director of the Chiba Junior High School Baseball Association, sec-gen Masahiro Yoshida and coaches Yasuhiro Sasaki and Shinji Tsuruyama, the Japanese delegation also conducted baseball clinics.

The visiting team drew with Ateneo and beat Marikina Juniors, 4-0; Marikina-Adamson, 1-0; Ateneo Juniors, 8-2; La Salle Juniors, 8-2 and La Salle, 1-0.

MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando and wife Marikina Mayor Marides Fernando graced the event and vowed to build an international standard baseball field and training facilities in the city this year.
