CSA strikes again in Shakey's volley

Colegio San Agustin overcame a tough stand by Miriam College in the second set to win, 25-17, 26-24, for its second straight victory in the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League last weekend at the Arellano University gym.

Former national youth team mainstays Ingrid Reyes, Den Lazaro and Natasha Faustino combined for 39 points, including the key hits in the tightly fought second set as the CSA spikers took the lead in Bracket B of Division A.

With Djanel Cheng, Denise Tan and Mela Garbin doing the most damage, defending National Capital Region champion Hope Christian HS downed Dela Salle-Zobel, 25-18, 25-14, in the other featured match.

Notching its first win in two starts was St Francis of Assisi-Bacolod, which beat St. Jude in three sets, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, behind the heroics of Rodelyn Cruz and Gretchen Esmero who combined for 39 points.

In the other matches, Don Antonio Zuzurregui stunned Canossa Academy, 25-18, 25-12, University of Perpetual Help-Laguna routed Unida Christian College, 25-9, 25-8, St. Joseph’s College of QC beat Colegio de Santa Rosa, 25-22, 19-25, 25-14, University of the East dealt Dela Salle Zobel, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, and San Antonio de Padua whipped San Beda Alabang, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18.

Games will resume this weekend at the Dela Salle Lipa gym in Lipa City.
