Munti clouters dominate Kids tourney

Muntinlupa Little League (MLL) put in five teams into the finals of the recently concluded three-month 2008 Kids Tournament of Champions held at the Alabang Country Club, and went home with the crown in each division in an overpowering display of baseball savvy.

The MLL Braves beat Green Icon Mets, 13-3, in the Senior/Big Boys group, the MLL Spartans edged out the Seven Seas Academy, 5-4, for the Big Girls title, the MLL Angels defeated Xcell Mets, 15-4, the MLL Giants had a romp over sister team MLL Red Sox, 13-3, to take the Minors’ crown, while in the Coach Pitch division, the MLL Giants completely dominated Antipolo, 18-5, to complete Muntinlupa’s sweep of all its finals games.

Other winners in the event organized by the Junior Baseball & Softball Foundation of the Philippines, Alabang Baseball & Softball Club, Muntinlupa Little League, and Pure Play Sports Management, were the Angels Baseball which took home the Tee-Ball championship, beating the Toddlers, 15-1, Agoncillo over Dasmarinas, 7-4, in the Major Boys’ group, and Dasmariñas over Silver Icon bandits, 15-3, in the Major Girls division.

A total of 38 teams joined the tournament sponsored by Le Soleil de Boracay, Nuvoland Phils., Silver Icon, Green Icon, Xcell property Inc., Smart, Constellation Travels and Shakey’s and the finalists had the opportunity to meet with major league player Geno Espinelli of the San Francisco Giants who was a special guest at the championship day.

“We are happy with the turnout of participants as we had some teams coming all the way from nearby provinces like Batangas, Laguna and Cavite and this augurs well for the sport of baseball, we are committed to continue developing baseball in the country,” said tournament director Pepe Muñoz.
